How to install WhatsApp on Chromebook

Find out how to install WhatsApp on Chromebook. You bought a Chromebook and you don’t know how or where to download WhatsApp, or if it’s necessary. Well, it’s not for nothing that it’s among the 10 most popular apps on Android and iOS. The service is not just limited to smartphones. You can use it on your PC through different methods. And Chromebooks are no different.

So let’s look at two different ways to install WhatsApp on Chromebook.

How to install WhatsApp on your Chromebook

The web version is suitable if you don’t want to permanently install WhatsApp on your Chromebook. However, if you want to use WhatsApp natively with full functionality, it would be better to get your app. Therefore, we recommend you review the two options and choose the one that you think is appropriate according to your preferences and requirements.

Use WhatsApp Web

The beauty of WhatsApp Web is that you can access it from any PC without having to install anything. You get all the text and voice messaging features in this web-based version. However, voice and video calls are not limited, as well as some other native options that we find in phones (the WhatsApp stickers are there, don’t worry). But the fact that WhatsApp on Chromebook is available in this way is a great advance.

To use WhatsApp Web, all you have to do is follow these simple steps:

  1. Open Google Chrome on your Chromebook and go to .
  2. WhatsApp web homepage to scan QR code
  3. Open WhatsApp on your phone and tap on the three dots or gear icon in the top right corner of your screen.
  4. Go to Paired devices from the dropdown menu and tap Pair a device on the next screen.
  5. Next, a screen with a square camera will appear on your phone. Point it at the QR code displayed on WhatsApp Web on your Chromebook and it will launch immediately.
  6. Sign in to WhatsApp Web

That’s all. You are now signed in to your WhatsApp account on your Chromebook. You can use the messaging features through the web version. And to be able to make calls, use the method given below.

Using the WhatsApp application for Android

Using this method, you can unlock the full functionality of WhatsApp on your Chromebook. All you have to do is install its app from the Google Play Store.

Before we go any further, it’s worth mentioning that the Google Play Store isn’t available on some older Chromebook models. It is also not currently available on Chrome OS Flex. If you’re using one of these versions, unfortunately, you’ll have to make do with WhatsApp Web for now.

This is how you can install the WhatsApp app on your Chromebook:

  1. Click on the Launcher in the bottom left corner of your screen and locate the Play Store in the app drawer. You can also search for it if you can’t find it. Alternatively, you can also go to to open the store.
  2. Once open, search for “WhatsApp” in the Play Store search bar.
  3. Click on the WhatsApp application and press Install to continue with the installation.
  4. The app should now be installed on your Chromebook. You can find it in your Chromebook’s app drawer and start setting it up. Once set up, you’ll get all the WhatsApp features on your Chromebook that are available on smartphones.

It goes without saying that you will need the hardware capabilities on your machine to use the calling functions. For example, your Chromebook must have a built-in camera or an external webcam if you want to make video calls.
